Local investors dominate NSE as total domestic transactions rises by 53.51% in Nov

The recent domestic and foreign portfolio investment released by the Nigeria Stock Exchange showed that local investors dominated the market as domestic total domestic transactions increased by 53.51 per cent to N250.50 billion in November this year from N163.18 billion recorded in October.

Total foreign transactions, however, decreased by 17.63 per cent from N81.72billion ( $211.75 million) to N67.31billion ( $172.38million) between October and November 2020.

The NSE poll trading fugure from market operators indicated that as at November 30, 202., total transactions at the nation’s bourse increased by 29.77 per cent from N244.90 billion ($634.55 million) in October 2020 to N317.81 billion about $813.87 million in November 2020.

The NSE however said that the performance of the current month compared to the month of November 2019 of N172.52 billion revealed that total transactions increased by 84.22 per cent.

In November 2020, the  value of transactions executed by domestic investors outperformed trading carried out by foreign investors by Cica 58 per cent.

An analysis of the domestic transactions showed that Institutional Investors outperformed Retail Investors by 16 per cent. A comparison of domestic transactions in the current and prior month of October revealed that retail transactions increased by 52.10 per cent from N69.94 billion in October 2020 to N106.38 billion in November 2020 while the institutional composition of the domestic market increased by 54.57 per cent from N93.24 billion in October 2020 to N144.12billion in November 2020.

However, the availabe data indicated   over a 13 year period, domestic transactions decreased by 72.30 per cent from N3.556 trillion in 2007 to N985 billionn in 2019 while foreign transactions increased by 53.08 per cent from N616bn to N943bn over the same period.

Total domestic transactions accounted for about 51 per cent of the total transactions carried out in 2019, whilr foreign transactions accounted for about 49 per cent of the total transactions in the same period.
