Letter to governors

The idea of some governors to purchase public buses to ease the transportation problem in metropolitan areas of their states is a welcome development amidst the hardship faced by Nigerians as a result of removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government recently.

The removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu has made Nigerians struggling to survive due to the hike in commodities prices and transport fares.
People that live in remote areas find it difficult to get access to major towns for normal activities, and many roads in the local areas are very bad.

In his intervention to minimise the hardship faced by Nigerians caused by removal of fuel subsidy, President Tinubu allocated N5 billion to each state as palliative to ease the hardship.
Several governors, on their part, purchased public buses to ease the transport fares in the metropolitan areas of their states.

Obviously, residents of the metropolitan areas are the only beneficiaries of the intervention, while the people living in local areas who are the most adversely affected by the subsidy removal are left behind. These people have been struggling with bad road network, insecurity by bandits and insurgent groups, lack of good healthcare, among others.

However, considering the fact that these local residents rely on farming activities, and we are in harvest period, these masses are in dire need of cheaper transport system to transport their produce from the farms to their homes or to the market.

Indeed, the the residents of local areas are battling with exorbitant transport fares and expect government’s intervention to minimise the hardship. Thus, providing inter-local government’s buses will play a crucial role to the life of local masses amidst the current hardship caused by the removal of fuel subsidy
Therefore, i appeals to the our governors and all concerned to provide buses for these people.
