Let NYSC spirit guide you, DG charges corps members

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Brig-General Shuaibu Ibrahim has called on Nigerians to shun division and embrace unity by letting the spirit of NYSC live in them towards promoting national unity and cohesion.

Brig-General Ibrahim stated this Wednesday while addressing corps  members deployed to the FCT for the 2021 Batch ‘A’ Stream II Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Kubwa.

The DG said NYSC was established for the promotion of National Unity and integration, and urged the corps members to shun ethnic and religious jingoism.
“Take the advantage of the service year to promote national unity. Use the Orientation Course to imbibe team spirit, resilience, leadership skills and endurance.
“Abide by the tenets of the Orientation Course and let the spirit of NYSC live in you forever,” the DG said.

Brig-General Ibrahim admonished the corps members not to allow their actions today, haunt their tomorrow, and urged them to be security conscious and avoid spreading fake news on social media.

He said corps members should engage in skill acquisition by participating in the NYSC SAED programme in order to become employers  of labour and creators of wealth.
Speaking further, the Director-General said efforts were on to get government’s approval for the establishment of National Youth Service Trust Fund from which funds would be made available for interested corps members to start their businesses “after undergoing the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) training”.

He commended the corps members for complying  with COVID-19 protocols especially the use of face masks and social distancing.
The high point of the Director Generals’ visit was the flagoff of the FCT tree planting initiative at the camp.
