Lekki Deep Seaport commences commercial operations as promoters announce new appointments

The dreams of the promoters of Lekki Deep Seaport have finally materialised with the commencement of commercial operations at the strategically located facility when it received the first container laden vessel at the port on Thursday.

According to the official Twitter handle of Lagos Free Zone, @LFZTolaram, the berthing of the vessel announced the official start of operations at Lekki Port.

The tweet read, ‘Lekki Port at Lagos Free Zone is open for business’, read, “Massive congratulations to the @LekkiPort on the arrival of the first vessel at the port yesterday, 6th April 2023.

“This major milestone which marks the official start of Operations at Lekki Port is truly a testament to the commitment of all the stakeholders who were involved in making this a reality. Here’s to many more successful arrivals and a bright future for Lekki Port at LFZ.”

Meanwhile the board of Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited (LPLEL) – the promoters of Lekki Deep Sea Port – have approved the promotions of Weiliang Willian Zhong and Daniel Odibe as the new Chief Technical Officer and Deputy Chief Operating Officer of the company.

Weiliang, who until his new appointment was Deputy Chief Operations Officer will now organize and monitor all technical activities, ensure compliance with all objectives, prepare appropriate budgets and coordinate with multiple staff and monitor all equipment and civil assets.

The firm said he would bring his over 12 years’ experience in the maritime industry as an expert in coastal and port engineering, design management, interface management and project management to bear on the company.

An electronic statement noted that the Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Daniel Odibe will be responsible for managing daily port operation activities concerning Health, Security, Safety, and Environment, as well as spearheading the development, communication, and implementation of effective growth strategies around port operations.
