Lafiya Dole ex-commander Abubakar dies in auto crash

Media Coordinator of Operation Lafiya Dole, Colonel Mustapha Abubakar Anka, has confirmed in Maiduguri that the immediate past commander of  the counter insurgency  outfit, Major General Yusha’u Mahmood Abubakar, is dead.
Abubakar, the Chief of Army Training  and Operations died, yesterday  in a ghastly motor accident along Damaturu -Maiduguri road.

Also involved in the auto crash were the General Officer Commanding  (GOC) 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Muhammed Aliyu,  and some other officers.
The  injured GOC  and other survivors had  been conveyed to Jos, Plateau State for adequate medical attention.

Yobe State Deputy Governor, Abubakar Aliyu, Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, the State Police Commissioner, Zanna Muhammed were among early sympathisers at the General Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital where the victims were brought.
The late army chief was appointed the commander, Operation Lafiya Dole some six months ago to head the counter insurgency operation against Boko Haram.
His appointment was the first time the Nigerian army in its history, was  deploying Corps Headquarters in the field.
Prior to that time, he was the commander of Nigerian Army Armoured Corps. At the end of a successful outing against the insurgents, he was returned to the headquarters as chief of army training and operations.
