A former chairman of National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), zonal headquarters, Zone 4, Abuja branch, of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), Comrade Frank Udom, has frowned upon what he called the “selective payment and delay tactics” of being used by the Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE).
He insisted that “he is overdue for payment, but for the sharp practices by BPE.”
He stated this while addressing newsmen in Abuja after a protest by electricity workers at to press home the need for their immediate payment.

According to him, he was short paid by those who computed his details by reducing his years of service by 10years instead of 1987as captured in his letter of first appointment but they captured 1997, therebyshort paying him his severance benefit by 10 years.
He, however, told BPE to inform them of the anomaly, in a letter dated October 20, 2014, addressed to the Director General, BPE, titled: “Short payment in terminal benefit” and it read: “I wish to use this medium to bring to your notice that there was shortfall or short payment in the terminal benefit that was paid into my account last week.”
Udom said “The same letter was acknowledged received by the DG’s office on the 27thof November 2014and till date 6months after no positive response after several verifications by PHCN, BPE approved and signed by one I.

Usman, of PHCN, Mrs.  Omojola M.A BPE, and OgunmadeK. O. both on the 11th of February 2015, in the complain form for active stafffrom the office of the permanent secretary and chairman implementation committee on the settlement of PHCN terminal benefit federal ministry of power.
“Confirming the date of his first appointment letter and same document has been submitted to the BPE, wondering why the payment was yet to be made.”
