NLC storms Osun IBEDC over electricity tariff hike

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Monday stormed the headquarters of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) business hub in Osogbo, Osun state, to demand reversal of electricity hike.

The NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) barricaded the entrance of IBEDC with placards of various inscriptions, chanting different anti-government songs.

The unions armed with placards  read: “NCRC &All Discos must respect workers’ right”, “Nigeria Say no to increase in Electricity Tariff,”  “Reverse Draconian Decision,” among others.

They prevented customers from entering the office of the IBEDC warning to deal with any defiant staff of the distribution company.

The TUC chairman, Abimbola Fasasi, said the protest was to make a statement and let the federal government know that the electricity tariff increment was unacceptable by Nigerians.

He warned that FG must reverse its decision on electricity tariff increment on time, noting that “The government has to develop and improve on electricity generation and supply.”

Also, Christopher Arapasopo, NLC state chairman, insisted that the position of labour is that the recent increase in the electricity tariff by the NERC should be reversed.
