Kudos to Buni’s caretaker role

It is a fact that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had suffered serious crack during the 2019 general elections.

The cracks were occasioned by inability of the then national leadership of the party to patch up the hitherto crisis in most of the party’s controlled states, which necessitated the dissolution of the National Working Committee under the leadership of Adams Oshiomhole and appointed Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state to head the Caretaker/Convention Planning Committee in June 2020.

Buni, a former national secretary of the party, is believed to be in possession of inside knowledge of the APC problems being at the helm of affairs of the party. From June, when Buni took over from Oshiomhole, APC had started regaining grounds and faded popularity resurfaces as almost all the crisis prone states were visited by the committee and eventually met with aggrieved factions.

One can boastfully say the outcome of the recently conducted Ondo state governorship election and lots of indicators were that Buni’s committee is bearing the expected successes.

Despite the fact that the task of fixing the party’s inflicted crisis is herculean, we the true loyalists of APC, bear no doubt that Buni’s leadership is on course to reposition and bring back the lost glory in the party. We are, therefore, satisfied with the steps being taken by Buni and his members.

We, however, observe with concern the way former Sen. Marafa faction of APC was attacking the resuscitated peaceful cohesion being enjoyed by true party faithful.

Some members of the faction have also started campaigning for Buni to resign. Let me remind them that Buni’s appointment was a decision by President Buhari and other executive members of the party.

They should therefore redirect the call to Mr. President and not Buni.

We call on patriotic APC members to come to embrace the leadership of Buni in order to remedy the loopholes and promote APC to enviable position.

Hon. AbdulMalik Zubairu Bungudu,

former member, House of Representatives,

Bungudu/Maru federal constituency
