Kogi gov: Monarch urges politicians to eschew violence



The Olujumu of Ijumu, Oba William Olusegun Ayeni, has cautioned political gladiators in Ijumu land to eschew politics of bitterness and character assassination, saying the forthcoming governorship election in Kogi state does not worth the life of any Ijumu son and daughter.

The monarch, who stated this Saturday during  Ijumu  Day cerebration in Ijumu local government area of Kogi state,  appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission, contestants and their supporters to give room for free, credible and peaceful election.

“There is no doubt that we have allowed some selfish politics to divide us, which ought not be.

“We must see ourselves as one and have a change of attitude as our sons and daughters who are well-to-do must come back home to invest in our community. Let us remember that the Ijumu you refuse to contribute to develop today is where your children and grand children belong.

“My dear people, as the November 16th Kogi state governorship election is getting closer, it is important that all political gladiators in Ijumu play the game according to the rule.

“Once again, this election does not worth the blood of anybody. The youths must avoid been used to perpetrate violence as anyone caught will face the wrath of the law” the monarch warned.

He lauded Governor Yahaya Bello for approving the upgrading of two traditional stools (Ologidi and Olu Adde Stools) , adding that efforts were being made to ensure the grading of Olu of Odokoro, Olu Ayeh stools as well as Obaro of Iyamoye, Eleta of Iyara, Obaro of Egbeda Egga, Olukoyi of Okoro Gbede, among others from 3rd class to 2nd class status.

“I want to reassure you today that, the Ijumu Local Government Area Traditional Council under my watch is committed to sustained peace and development and the promotion of our culture and heritage.

“To this end, efforts are in top gear, to establish a website that will promote Ijumu people to the entire world to enable people from all walks of life to access information about every community in Ijumu on their finger tips.
