Kogi crisis: ‘Melaye, stop the blackmail’

A civil society group, Kogi Professional Forum (KPF), and 200 other civil societies yesterday in Abuja berated the Senator Dino Melaye-led committee probing the alleged misconduct of Governor Yahaya Bello, describing the move as “a futile one.”

Addressing a press conference, the leader of the group, Comrade Ibrahim Ali, said it was wrong for the senator representing Kogi West senatorial district and other disgruntled leaders of the party to accuse the governor of engaging in anti-party activities.
He accused Melaye of orchestrating the crisis because of selfish interest; stressing that that Senator Melaye was only out to distract the governor from pursuing the vigorous agenda of developing the state, adding that he “cannot be the judge” in their own case.
Ali also debunked the allegation that the governor appointed non-APC members as commissioners and his personal aides.

“The Governor should be commended for his large-hearted policy of inclusive government rather than archaic policy of winner takes it all,” Ali said.
Apart from Melaye, he also berated the state chairman of the party, Alhaji Hadi Ametuo, and other leaders of the party for supporting the call to probe Bello over the appointments he had made since becoming governor on January 27.
”For the records, haven single handedly nominated the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Melaye had no locus standi to accuse the governor of sidelining him in the scheme of things in the state.”
