Kano: Yusuf pledges swift action against Ramadan food distribution saboteurs

The Kano state governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has warned that those caught diverting food items meant for vulnerable residents during Ramadan would be severely dealt with.

The governor stated Wednesday that those found guilty, including security personnel, could face life imprisonment.

Governor Yusuf made the remarks during the launch of the state’s fourth Ramadan palliative distribution program, which aims to distribute food items to 250,000 households across Kano’s 44 local government areas.

“Let me make this very clear, anyone, individual or group, found diverting even a single bag of rice will be dealt with decisively according to the law. This is a warning to those who think they can steal from the most vulnerable. We will not tolerate any sabotage of this distribution exercise.”

The governor stated the importance of transparency and urged the Local Government Palliative Distribution Compliance Committees to strictly adhere to the distribution guidelines.

He also highlighted the program’s goal of alleviating hardship during Ramadan, a time when food insecurity can worsen for many families.

“We understand the unique challenges of Ramadan, especially for the less fortunate,” he said.

“These palliatives will significantly help address food shortages during the fasting period.”
