Tragedy struck the people of Dorayi Quarters in Kumbotso local government area of Kano state following the sudden collapse of a pedestrian’s bridge which led to the death of seven passengers in a taxi cab.
Our correspondent learnt on good authority that the driver of the taxi cab had defied all entreaty the time he was seriously warned to steer clear of the bridge as the construction work was in progress, the time when he brave the consequences of crossing it.
According to eyewitnesses, many motorists and commuters plying the area had heeded the warning on the danger of crossing the bridge with the construction work in progress.

The driver of the ill- fated taxi cab, according to investigations, was only seen crossing beneath the bridge and got trapped in the rubble.
The eyewitness said: “I only heard the voices of the passengers screaming for help at the time no one could summon the courage to go near it. We only kept on praying for divine intervention but all to no avail.

“In a situation like this people are expected to listen to the voice of reason when certain calamity is feared to occur. I wonder how people can be so stupid to be adamant when one is warned against certain act.”

Our correspondent also learnt that some of the dead victims including the driver sustained internal injuries and could not make it at the time they were rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital for treatment.

Kano state Police Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Magaji Musa Majiya, confirmed the death at the time of filing in this report.
