Kano lawmakers resolve to sustain good governance

Kano state House of Assembly has said that it would continue to sustain the established culture of good governance, transparency and accountability in managing the public resources.
It added that mechanism that would engage public participation in sustaining government development projects would also adopted.

The state lawmakers made this know in a communiqué issued at the weekend after a-four day retreat entitled “Consolidating the Gains of Good Governance Through Appropriate Policy Framework for Sustainable Economic Growth and Political Stability of Kano state” held in Abuja.

The statement which was read by the House majority leader, Hon. Kabiru Rano, said: “The honourable members noted with satisfaction the public commendation to the House for engaging public participation in legislation. As a result, members resolved to always be guided by the needs and interest of the people of Kano state by ensuring the execution of people oriented projects in the state.

“The House acknowledges the fact that internal generated revenue is the catalyst for sustainable economic development, therefore, resolved to ensure revenue enhancement/friendly legislation to further boost the state/Local government revenue generation drive.

“That the House shall ensure capacity building of members and general staff for robust development of the state legislative, therefore resolved to conduct retreat twice a year so as to achieve this aspiration.”

While appreciating the existing harmony between the legislature, executive and the Judicial arms of government in Kano, the lawmakers particularly resolved a continue to give Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, initiatives through what they called “effective legislation.”

“The state government responsiveness to high fiscal discipline under the able leadership of His excellence, the executive governor of Kano state, DR. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso was nationally recognised, and also by a Transparency in Nigeria (TIN) an affiliate body of Transparency International, a global coalition against corruption. Honorable members resolved to be committed to consolidating this gain by domesticating Fiscal Responsibility and Public procurement Acts.”
