K/Ala boat mishap: 8 bodies recovered as search intensifies

Eight bodies have so far been recovered from last Friday boat mishap in Katsina Ala local government area of Benue state.
Blueprint learnt that family members and friends were still searching for the bodies of some of their loved ones who drowned during the unfortunate incident even as remaining seven were yet to be found.
The incident was said to have been caused by overloading, as it was learnt that the boat, which was supposed to carry between eight to 10 passengers was ferrying 15.
One of the residents in the area, Tarhemba Ngusha, told our correspondent on phone that victims of the capsised boat were mourners, who were attending the burial of one of the prominent elders in the area.
“I was also supposed to be on the boat but escaped because my mother wanted me to assist her with the food and drink she had prepared to serve some of her relations, who came from Ushongo to attend the burial.
Chairman of Katsina A/la local government, Virginia Kpindi, confirmed the incident and said efforts were being intensified to recover the remaining missing persons.
According to her some, local divers had been contracted to conduct a search for the remaining victims.
