Kaduna: Terrorists attack Millennium City, shoot 1, kidnap 6

Terrorists on Friday night attacked Ungwan Ma’aji community, in the New Millennium City, Chikun Local government area of Kaduna state, where they shot one person and went away with six others including children.

Two men however, escaped from the terrorists as they took away their six captives, while they shot sporadically at a man who was returning to his house from town, as he drove into the community injuring him and ridding his vehicle, a Peugeot 406, with bullets.

The bandits, according to survivors, stormed the community around 9:10pm and attacked a house two buildings away from the junction off Umaru Musa Yar’Adua expressway, where they abducted a housewife and her house help.

The terrorists then attacked another house few buildings on the same street, where they abducted four other persons including an elderly woman and children.

An eye witness told Blueprint that one other person who was taking fresh air outside his house was also kidnapped, while another person riding a motorcycle was stopped at gunpoint and added to the captives, but the two of them escaped while they were being taken away through a stream at the back end of the community.

Narrating how he escaped, the survivor said he was yet to return home after leading the ‘Isha’i’ (late evening) prayer, usually done around 8:00pm when the kidnappers arrived.

According to him, “I was picked in front of the Mosque, then they broke into two other houses and picked six people. While they were breaking into the second house, myself, another neighbour, the women and the house help kidnapped from the first house were asked to lie down on the bare floor over there.

“After the bandits broke into the second house and picked four people, we became eight, then they started leading us out of the community. On getting to the stream at the far end of the community, the two of us picked outside, escaped while they were attempting to make us cross the stream. The bandits were all small boys. I think the eldest of them should not be more than 20 years old,” he said.

When Blueprint visited the area Saturday morning, the bullet ridden Peugeot 406 belonging to the shot resident, was still on ground.

Residents of the area said, “the man was returning home in his car and the bandits made attempt to stop him, but he refused, so they sprayed his vehicle with bullets some of which hit him. After the abduction he was rushed to the hospital and at the emergency ward now, we pray he survives”.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna state Command Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muhammad Jalige, told a journalist he would contact the DPO in charge of Millennium City and brief the media later, but he has yet to speak as at the time of going to press.
