Kaduna community appeals to El-Rufai on roads, drainages

Tsaunin Kura community of Sabon Tasha GRA in Chikun local government area of Kaduna state has appealed to Governor Nasir el-Rufai to come to their aid in constructing motorable roads and drainages in the area.

President General of the community, Dr. Silas Adamu, alongside other community leaders, who took journalists round the community on first hand assessment of the deplorable state of the roads and poor drainages in the area, said they face palpable fears at the onset of the rainy season such as now, as they face lots of challenges and dangers in exiting or entering the community.

According to Dr. Adamu, as community members, they have spent personal monies to grade some parts of the roads and construct manageable drainages, but having exhausted their efforts as a community, they are appealing to Governor el-Rufai to assist them in improving the roads to ease their movement into and out of their community.

“Our challenge as a community is poor road network and drainages and these are capital projects that we cannot handle as a community, we have continued to do the best that we can as a community, now we need the government to help us.

“As law abiding citizens, we pay our taxes, ground rents as and when due but we are yet to feel the presence of government in this GRA that has been established since 1978.

“A number of residents of this area have meritoriously served this country and state in various capacities before retirement. So far, the electricity, grading of the road and some minor drainage works are community efforts.

“With the rains now, the situation of the road is worsened as you can see. We are forced to visit the mechanics every now and then due to broken vehicles as a result of the very bad roads,” he said.

Corroborating the President General’s position and appeal, the Secretary General of the community, Barrister Daniel Paul Fredericks, said the leaders of the community have written to the Governor appealing for urgent intervention on their roads and other required infrastructures in the area.

He said , “Seeing is believing and that is why we have brought you people here to equally see our plight and through you also further appeal to the performing Governor to also accommodate us in the urban renewal project and assist us as a community.”
