Junaidu Mohammed dies at 73

A former member of the House of Representatives under the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) from Kano state, Dr Junaid Mohammed, is dead.

A family source who confirmed the death said he died on Thursday night at his residence in Kano after an illness.

Aged 73, Mohammad was said to have died at Kwanar Dawaki isolation centre as a result of some health challenges, but was said to have been tested of Covid-19 even as the result turned out to be negative, according another family source.

According to the source, Mohammed’ remains would be brought to his residence located at Lamido Crescent in Kano metropolis on Friday morning for funeral prayer and burial.

Late Mohammed was a medical doctor who studied in the former Soviet Union Republic and specialised as a neurosurgeon.

He later left medical practice and joined politics and contested for the House of Representatives under the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in the second republic.

The deceased was a popular critic of many administrations including the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari and would be remembered for his stance on issues of national importance.

Mohammed was survived by one wife and five children.
