Judge blasts IPO, orders arrest of ‘fake lawyer’

Justice Peter Lifu of a federal high court, sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, yesterday lambasted an Investigative Police Officer, IPO, for what he described as negligence and irresponsibility.

The IPO was called on why a defendant, Folorunso Olayanju, has not been arrested despite the court order.

The IPO said “I don’t know when it was being released.”

When Justice Lifu asked him for about four times and the IPO repeated “I don’t know when it was being released,” the judge fumes and blasted the IPO.

The judge said “you are a disgrace to the Nigeria police. If as a sergeant you can not follow up the prosecution of a suspect, that means you are not responsible. Just listen to yourself. I don’t know when it was being released. It is unfortunate that you are in Nigeria police.”

The defendant, Folorunso Olayanju (60), was arraigned for alleged conspiracy and false pretense. He was granted bail and ran away.

Olayanju was arraigned for N12.2million fraud and also presented himself as a lawyer to one Hammed Bamidele at the federal high court.

Justice Lifu thereby ordered the prosecutor, Mr Ogunleye Muyiwa, to arrest the defendant and adjourned the case to October 28, 2020.

The judge also mandated the IPO and the sureties to be present in court on each day of the proceedings.
