Journalists made Nigeria a better country – Ex-NACCIMA president

The first female National President of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Iyalode Alaba Lawson, has stated that if not for Journalists, the country wouldn’t have been where it is at the moment.

Chief Lawson made this remark during a media parley held in Abeokuta, as part of activities marking her 70th birthday slated for January 18.

The grand matron of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun state Council further reiterated that for any business to thrive, the role of the media cannot be over-emphasized.

“Coming closer to the Journalists since 1982 when I was appointed the matron before finally appointed the grand matron of the Ogun NUJ has been of tremendous support to all my endeavors

“As a matter of fact, if not for the Journalists, Nigeria wouldn’t be where it is today. You people have done so well to expose so many things even with some sacrificing their lives

“Even during the thick crisis in Nigeria, when they switched off the lights at the airport to bring in someone into the country. If not for Journalists, how would we have known?” she posited

Speaking further on her life at 70, the Iyalode of Yorubaland attributed the successes she recorded to the grace of God, saying “It’s the grace of God and nothing else.”

“There is no ‘no’ in my dictionary. With God, all things are possible, whatever I want in life, I go for it. I listen to my inner being and once I do that, I don’t get it wrong.”

Lawson equally charged women in politics to be bold, strong and take their rightful positions in the leadership of the country.

A book titled ‘The Untold Story Of Alaba Lawson’ with the foreword written by the former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo will be launched on the 18th January, as part of the ceremony marking the birthday at OOPL, Abeokuta.
