President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday met with traditional rulers, including former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and new Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, to break Ramadan fast at the State House in Abuja.
Sanusi, who was removed as the CBN governor in controversial circumstances, met the president for the first time since his removal and subsequent emergence as the successor to the late Alhaji Ado Bayero.
The traditional rulers were led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III.
Sanusi led a special prayer for peace during the short event held at the president’s residence.

The Sultan, who spoke on behalf of the monarchs, condemned yesterday’s twin blasts in Kaduna and other forms of terrorism in the country, saying that the perpetrators of such acts are enemies of humanity.
He also requested for an audience with the president to discuss issues of national interest at a later date, which the president granted immediately.
Speaking at the event, the president urged the traditional rulers to team up with the present administration to put an end to the current insurgency.
While seeking more prayers, the president said the situation would have been worse if not for prayers.
“It could have been worse than this if not for prayers. We will surely get over it. We are doing our best to ensure we end this situation and with the support of Nigerians, we shall surely overcome.”
