Jigawa: IGP releases N41m cheques to 24 families of fallen heroes

The Jigawa state Police Command has issued out cheques worth N41 million to families of the 24 police officers that died in active service.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of the state command, Aliyu Abdullahi, while presenting the cheques to the next of kin of the 24 members of the families, said it would ease their immediate problems.

“I stand before you today with heart full of both profound sorrow and immediate pride. Sorrow for the irreplaceable loss the command has suffered, and pride for the un-doubting courage and dedication discharged by our fallen heroes.

“These officers were not just colleagues, they were brothers and sisters on blue, standing shoulder to shoulder in the face of danger, safeguarding our communities with firm resolve.

“They ran towards the flames when others ran away. They faced down threats to protect the vulnerable. They gave their lives in the noble pursuit of keeping us safe,” the CP added.

To the families of the fallen heroes, he said their loved ones were not just simply police officers, but were sons and daughters, fathers, mothers, husbands and wives.

“They were the light of your lives, and their absence leaves a void that can never be truly filled.

“Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, directed me to issue these 24 cheques as part of his Group Life Assurance Scheme (GLAS), amounting to 41 Million to the family members to change their lives,” he concluded.
