Jigawa govt approves N171.9bn for projects

In its first State Council meeting held immediately after signing into law the 2014 budget, Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa state said N171.9 billion had been approved for various contracts.
Addressing journalists shortly after the council meeting yesterday, the Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sports and Culture, Hon. Ibrahim Babandi Gumel, said out the amount N784 million had been set aside for the purchase of fertilisers for this year’s cropping season.

He added that about 3, 000 tonnes of NPK, 2000 urea and 2000 organic fertilisers would be procured with considerable subsidy to enable the farmers to purchase the commodity.
According to him, N657 million has been approved for the completion of work on the state radio house, and that the contractor is already putting finishing touches to the art work, landscaping, culverts and drainages, as well as the construction of gates and fences.
Gumel explained that N278 million had been approved for the improvement of medical and health centres across the state, adding that included six hospitals in Hadejia, Jahun, Kafinhausa, Gumel, Birninkudu and Dutse, respectively.
