Israel stands to end being bigger loser in Gaza war – Palestinian envoy

Palestinian Ambassador to Nigeria Abdullah Shawesh has called for an end to the war on Gaza by the Israeli forces, saying the end of the onslaught would only leave everyone a loser, and Israel as bigger loser.

He also said the Palestinians would not succumb to the intimidation by Israel, by accepting to be slaves under the latter, and therefore called on the entire world to rise in solidarity as it did during the apartheid regime in South Africa.

Shawesh  spoke Wednesday  at a media parley organised by the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) in Abuja.

He said: “In this war all of us are losers, but Israel is a bigger loser.”

The envoy, who cautioned against seeing the ongoing crisis as just Israel/Palestine problem, noted that the whole world would feel the impact in a way, saying injustice against one is injustice against all.

And to the media, he said: “We are not looking for support but we are seeking to be listened to. We are owed the moral duty of being listened to.

“No one is safe until everyone is safe. The international community should ensure peace returns to Gaza and Palestine.

“All resolutions at the UN concerning Palestine should be enforced. And no more lip service should be paid to decisions taken concerning Palestine.”

Describing the Israelis as bigger losers in the ongoing face-off, Shawesh said the original plan of Israel in eliminating Palestine is a myriad and can’t come to reality.

Going down memory lane on the Israeli/Palestine crisis, Shawesh said: “We did not invent the wheel; the two-state solution is enshrined in UN General Assembly Resolution 181, which is the official birth certificate for Siamese twins’ states.

“One of them has already been embodied,

which is the State of Israel, and the other has been waiting for 75 years and has not yet been born, which is the State of Palestine. Resolution 181 or the two-state birth certificate is not a new invention at all, but rather the absence of international will made it an incomplete birth process.

“Since the first day of its life, the new born state Israeli did not stop putting obstacles to the two solution by refusing the implementation of the UNGA 181 and 194 resolutions. To add insult to the injury in 1967 they occupied the remaining part of the historical land of Palestine June 1967 among many other challenges, expansion of existing and construction of new settlements is one of top significant obstacle of the peace process.

“Settlement and state of Palestine can’t mix at all. Two state solution means by default, dismantling and evacuating the Israeli settlements, that is a grave violation to the international law. Even the blindly unshakable and unequivocally western countries supporting Israeli align themselves with the international law on the settlements issue.”
