IPAC commends Zulum on conduct of LG polls

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has commended Borno state governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, over his resolve to ensure the conduct of council elections in the state.
IPAC in its extraordinary meeting held Wednesday in Maiduguri, said Zulum must be commended by all true democrats in the state for organising the exercise.

Speaking, the state secretary of IPAC in Borno, Alhaji Abba Modu, said for more than 13 years, the people of the state have been waiting to see when local government council elections would be conducted in the state.

The secretary said:” Therefore, the present administration in the state must be commended and appreciated for its readiness to conduct council elections.
“IPAC equally appreciates the Borno Independence Electoral Commission (BOSEIC), on the level of preparation against the local government council elections in the state,” Modu added.

He said about 75 percent of the political parties operating in the state have conducted their primary elections as scheduled by BOSIEC.
Our correspondent reports that local government council elections were conducted last in Borno state in 2007.
Increased mass-casualty terror attacks, which started in 2009, were said to have led to the suspension of local council election in the state.
