The International Organization of Tijaniyyah Brotherhood (IOTB) has urged Nigerians to be at peace with one another irrespective of their faiths.
Chairman of IOTB, Prof. Abdullahi El-Okene, who stated this Sunday, in Abuja at an international conference organized by IOTB in conjunction with Tijaniyyah Muslim Students Association of Nigeria (TIMSAN) also charged Nigerians not to rest until peace, sanity and spiritual upliftment dominate the country.
Reacting to the conference theme: “Tijaniyyah Tariqa Adherent: A Model for Universal Justice, Peace and Development” Prof. EL- Okene said “our message is to Tijaniyyah Adherent because we believe that they should lead and take the correction of the ills in our society more seriously because they are more in number than any entity in Nigeria.
“A Tijaniyyah understands the importance of peace and they are peaceful people. So a Tijaniyyah should try to pass this message on, this will make people know that you leave by benefiting mankind and not by destroying mankind, he added.
Chairman of IOTB who blamed the federal government for its inability to tame the insurgents, noted that ” the British people say a stitch in time saves nine, all these terrorism that has taken over some part of our country, the government has a lion share of the blame. Islam is a religion of peace when people that do not know Islam come forward and they are teaching people to abuse and you as the government who is supposed to regulate, you see them and keep quiet and even support such people, then expect a problem like the one we are in.
On how to achieve lasting peace in Nigeria, He said “This is why we said, a Tijaniyyah adherent should be a model of peace and development, all over the world. We must see ourselves as brothers.
Earlier in his remarks, Chairman of the conference, Prof. Kasim Uthman Issa also charged Nigerians, particularly the members of the Tijaniyyah Islamic group to start the peace move from their doorsteps.
He said “The Tijaniyyah brotherhood teaches about how you move closer to Allah, teaches peaceful coexistence between us as Muslims and none Muslims. It is a path that teaches brotherhood.
He added “Peace can not be achieved where there is conflict, we must ensure that we are conflict-free. We must continue to teach ourselves to leave in peace with each other. Our move for peace should also start from our doorsteps, one you are at peace with your neighbor and your neighbors are at peace with their neighbors, the peace goes round to everybody. And the nation will be at peace.
