Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Ambassador Rufus Akeju, yesterday said no eligible voter would be denied right to vote on ground of disability in the February polls.
Akeju stated this at a sensitisation workshop for People with disabilities in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
He said any voter blind or unable to distinguish symbols would be allowed to be accompanied into the polling station and assisted to vote by his or her confidant, adding that the electoral provision permits people with disabilities to perform their civic responsibilities without any obstruction at the polling station..
According to him, the Electoral Act clearly states that any voter without fingers should be assisted with an indelible ink on the corresponding toes of the voter’s right or left foot.
Speaking further, the REC  advised them to ensure that their members are nominated by political parties to contest elections in the coming elections as well as appointed into political office, saying that they should come together to constitute a formidable pressure group in order to improve their present status.
