Indigenes commence lectures in Benin Republic varsity

Thirteen Kano state indigenes on Aminu Kano Foundation scholarship at ISCOM University, Benin Republic have commenced lectures. Speaking to newsmen on the sponsorship, the National Coordinator, Aminu Kano Foundation, Malam Ibrahim Waiya, said the foundation took the decision considering their brighter academic prospects of the students. According to him, the 13 successful students had passed the in house interview conducted by the Foundation before they were ascertained to be qualified for the scholarship grant, affirming that supporting the most talented indigenes of Kano would remain the Foundation’s cardinal objective. He stated that the effort was to bridge the gap between the north and other parts of the country, educationally. “I was physically present at the university campus and highly impressed with what we saw on ground. The status of the university is a befitting one and had the much needed facilities to offer all courses. “Since we are really satisfied with the condition we met in the university, we expect the conduct of our students to be acceptable to the host community. The Foundation is all out to support relevant academic programmes and make the beneficiaries to use their individual potentialities for optimum public utilisation,” he said. He said arrangements had also been concluded to expand the scholarship scheme to other states in the north, positing that covering the northern part of the country is a responsibility the Foundation considered worthwhile. He called on Kano indigenes to avail themselves of the opportunity offered by the Foundation which had entered into partnership with the management of ISCOM University on Nigerian students academic programmes, stressing that such a partnership would assist in bridging the academic gap between the north and other parts of the country
