In FCT, APC chairman sets up technical committee to review party’s 8 years activities

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Abdulmalik Usman, has set up a technical committee to review all the activities and progress of the party in FCT beginning from  2015 to date.

Inaugurating the committee headed by the party’s state Secretary, Hon. Hashimu Angama, the state Chairman said the need to constitute this committee became necessary to have a prepared comprehensive report of the party to be presented to those in authority to make decisions.

Tracing the party’s performance since  2015, revealed that the party has been facing a lot of challenges as a result of intra-party wranglings and rivalries among party leaders across all the six Area Councils in the territory.

Recall that the party that had performed satisfactorily well in its first FCT Area Councils elections participated immediately after its formation in 2016 by winning all the six Area Councils in the territory, had three years later in 2019,  lost two Area Councils’  Chairmanship and many Councillorship seats to the main opposition party, People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

Regrettably, the party dwindling situation became worst in 2022 when it lost the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC,  the Council that hosts the nation’s seat of power to PDP and failed woefully to secure 25 percent of the total votes casts in FCT for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the last presidential election held on February 25 this year.

Rising from this worrisome situation, Abdulmalik disclosed that this technical committee was constituted to thoroughly look at the problems confronting the party and the progress recorded so far, and come up with a report containing suggestions and recommendations that would halt these ugly trends and then reposition the party property in FCT.

The state chairman, who charged the committee to do a thorough job and come up with a dependable report that would be seen as a working document to fix the party in FCT, urged its members to justify the confidence and trust the party reposed in them.

“They are expected to come up with a report that would guide party leaders to make decisions and those others that are desirous to know the situation with the party in FCT”,  he said.

Responding, the chairman of the committee, Hon. Angama, who commended the initiative of the state chairman, said this was the kind of commitment that the party had long expected and therefore described it as a right step in the right direction, especially at this time of the new administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He noted that members had learned a lot and the time has to work to restructure and reposition the party in FCT.

Angama noted that his committee would do a thorough work and would not disappoint the party.  He said: “We are going to work to bring out meaningful report that any FCT Minister that comes will look at the report to work with.”

Other members of the committee include Alhaji Ibrahim Koko Kuje, Engr. Adaji Usman, Comrade Abdulwahab Ekekhide and Hon. Yusuf Mohammed Nadabo who serves as Secretary.
