An unknown pregnant woman has allegedly delivered and abandoned her new born baby at Primary health care center Obiuno village in Osumeyi, Nnewi South LGA of Anambra state.
The mother, it was learnt, walked into the hospital at point of delivery at about 11:20am, and was quickly attended to and fifteen minutes later, she was successfully delivered of a baby girl while the nurses left to attend to other patients.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Haruna Muhammed, who confirmed the report, said, “shortly after the delivery, the woman abandoned the baby and disappeared to unknown destination leaving behind the child at the mercy of the nurses at the health care center.”
Muhammed said the Police operatives attached to Juvenile and welfare unit, Osumenyi division had visited the scene and efforts are being intensified to trace the fleeing mother in order to bring her to Justice.
He said arrangements have been concluded to hand over the baby to Government orphanage for custodial care.
In another development, the PPRO said the command, on June 12, 2019, detectives attached to B’ division Awka arrested a-28-year-old Ifeany Alagba of Amoko road, ifite Awka for allegedly having unlawful carnal knowledge with an eleven years old deaf and dumb girl of same address on the June 9, while her mother was away.
He said the victim had been taken to the hospital for medical examination, while the case is under investigation.
