I remain Ogun assembly speaker, Oluomo insists

The embattled speaker of the Ogun state house of assembly, Rt. Hon Olakunle Oluomo, has insisted that his impeachment remains illegal, declaring that he remains the speaker of the house.

Oluomo stated this Friday, while speaking with newsmen at his residence inside the legislative quarters in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Oluomo was impeached on Tuesday, when 18 out of the 26 members of the assembly signed the notice, just as Hon. Daisi Elemide representing Odeda state constituency was elected the new speaker.

“I remained speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly. Some members have continued to terrorise me after my emergence for second term as speaker. I have believe that members have right to elect speaker, but due process must follow.

“Two of the lawmakers wrestled the mace from sergeant at arm, before forcing their way into the chambers to carry out the illegal impeachment. Even if they want to impeach me, they ought to have served me impeachment notice.

“After the purported impeachment, they later served me the impeachment notice which i have swiftly responded to.

“I am ready to face panel to defend myself, but until that is done, i remain the speaker.

“I have even filed a suit asking the court to determine whether the Speaker of the Assembly could be impeached through a gestapo style,” Oluomo said.
