Hoodlums kill man over land dispute in Osun

A 50-year-old local government worker, Tairu Badmus, has been killed by hoodlums over land dispute between Iloba village and Erin-Osun in Irepodun local government area of Osun state.

The hoodlums were said to have also razed five buildings during melee.
It was learnt that some hoodlums from Iloba village led by one Saheed Tanfeani shot Tairu along Erin/Egbedi road, Erin Osun while Local Government Surveyor and his team were working on the disputed land which the Erin community wanted to site proposed Housing Scheme.

It was gathered that some youths retaliated by mobilising to Iloba village and set five houses on fire.

The traditional ruler of Iloba, Oba Gbadamonsi Ajibola, who spoke to our Correspondent on telephine, alleged that some hoodlums in Erin-Osun mobilised to his community to kill people.

The monarch said plans by the state government to elevate his position as ‘Part two Oba’ might have caused the jealousy.

He appealed to the state government to intervene before the issue degenerate to bloodshed.

The monarch claimed ignorance of those that allegedly attack surveyor and his team along Erin/Egbedi road. Subsequently, Counsel to the Erin Community, Chief Abdulfatia Abdulsalam, refuted the claim that residents of his community razed houses in Iloba Community.

He said, “we did not razed any house in Iloba village neither do we destroy any farmland. Those that were attacked were working on the land of Erin where we wanted to build Erin Housing Scheme. We did not encroach on any land.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Osun Command, Mrs Yemisi Opalola confirmed the incident.

She said, “one Saheed was shot dead while he was working on disputed land with Surveyor. The police have visited the scene and five expended cartridges were recovered from the scene. Our men arrested one Ibraheem Olaniran while intensive manhunt is ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspect.

She said the corpse of Saheed has been deposited at Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo for post mortem, saying “we have beefed up security in those areas to prevent reprisal attacks.
