Gunmen abduct another catholic priest in Imo

Another Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Mathais Opara, was Friday evening abducted by gunmen along Ogbaku/Ejemekwuru road in Imo state.

This incident is happening five days after a catholic priest in charge of Christ the King Catholic Church Ezinachi/Ugwuago parish in the Catholic Diocese of Okigwe, Rev Fr Maduka, was kidnapped while preparing for last Sunday’s service.

This Friday’s incident involved Fr. Opara and three other occupants of his vehicle and it occured on the ever busy Onitsha road linking Mbaitoli and Oguta Local Government Areas (LGAs).

An eye witness who spoke to Blueprint correspondent, said the priest popularly known in Igbo parlance as “Owu Ujo ?” meaning “Is it fear?” was double-crossed by his asailants while driving back to Owerri, the Imo State capital after the burial rites of the father of one of his colleagues at Izombe Community in Oguta LGA of the state.

However, Imo Police Command’s spokesman, ASP Henry Okoye, is yet to react to the incident.
