Group advocates stiffer penalty for drug abusers

A non-governmental organisation under the aegis of Faculty of Peace has advocated stiffer legislation to punish drug abusers because “offenders take advantage of the weak laws.”

The group also called for judicial reforms to eliminate the slow pace of justice system.

President of the organisation, Mr. Osunbor Kelly Omokaro, stated this weekend during an event he held in Benin City, Edo state, to raise awareness on the consequences of drug & substance abuse.

Omokaro who admonished youth and students present at the event to stay away from drugs said: “You can’t use drugs to find happiness. You need to set goals and achieve set goals to be happy,” he stated.

On his part, the Coordinator Patrol, Edo zonal command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Dr. Adamu Abiodun, stated the need for everyone to be vigilant and report any illegal drug activity to the appropriate authorities.

The Edo state Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, urged all and sundry to avoid self-medication, which according to him, could result in addiction.
