Grandmother held for beaten 4-year-old girl with broom


A woman has been arrested for beaten her grand-daughter with broom, causing her to lose her sight. 


The woman who was said to be the grandmother of the 4-year-old girl, was living at Amondo village, Ile-Ife, Osun state. 


The State Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Bukola Olaboopo, told newsmen that the woman has been arrested and would soon be charged to court. 


The commissioner explained that the broom used to beat the girl, stoked into her eye and she was not taken to the hospital. 


She explained that the woman refused to take the girl to the hospital and instead administering early morning urine and palm oil till the girl lost the sight.  


Olaboopo hinted that the suspected woman is now with the Osun Women’s Clinic to go through a training on child care and protection in line with the Child Rights Laws of the State.


“May I beseech Parents and guardians to be humane in the discipline of children under their care. It’s doable if only we can commit to training our children in love. 


She urged mothers leaving their marriages to move with their children especially if they are young,  saying “no one cares better for a child than the biological mother.
