Gowon commends NYSC managers for sustaining vision

Former head of state, Gen Yakubu Gowon, has eulogised managers of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for sustaining his vision of a united and indivisible entity which was the cardinal philosophy behind the establishment of the scheme.

A statement by the director, Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Adenike Adeyemi, said Gen. Gowon who turned 86 today gave this commendation when the NYSC Family, led by the Director-General, Brig. Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim, paid him a goodwill visit to felicitate with him.

The former head of state commended the managers of the scheme on the policy of the corps which stipulates deployment of prospective corps members to states outside that of their origin.

This policy, he noted, helps in exposing them to other cultures, and by so doing, walls of ethnic suspicions and prejudices are pulled down, and bridges of friendships erected.

The former head of state lauded General Ibrahim for his tremendous achievements since his assumption of office as director general of the NYSC, advising him to continue on that positive light.
