Governor Emmanuel tasks 2195 corps members to contribute to Akwa Ibom devt

The governor of Akwa Ibom state, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has charged no fewer than 2, 195 corps members posted to the state to contribute to the development of all sectors the economy of the state.

Emmanuel gave the charge Friday during the swearing in ceremony of Batch ‘A’ stream II corps members deployed to the state at the National Youth Orientation Camp, Ikot Itieudung in Nsit Atai LGA.

The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Youth & Sport, Monday Uko, said the orientation course was an integral part of the service year “which provides corps members with an opportunity to internalise the ideals of nation-building.”

He said, “Your deployment to the state is to complement the effort of the government towards realising its vision of fast-tracking development in all sectors of the economy in line with the administration’s endeavours.

“As participants, therefore, do not be carried away by the fun of the exercise, but apply yourselves to those aspects beneficial for your physical and mental health.”

He warned them against social vices such as cultism, drug abuse and among others, but to maintain good conduct “which will help promote national unity.”

The Commissioner for Youths & Sports, represented by the Director of Youth, Mr. Emmanuel Akpabio, in his remarks, urged the corps members to take advantage of the numerous opportunities inherent in the Orientation Course for the maximum benefit.

Also speaking, the state coordinator of the Scheme, Mrs. Chinyere Ekwe, charged the corps members to leverage the acquisition skills during the orientation course to prepare themselves for post-service years.

She pledged to continue to support all policies and programmes of the state government while appealing to the state government not to relent in intervening in the camp’s projects.
