Gombe monarch condemns Waja/Lunguda crisis

A paramount ruler of Waja in Gombe state, Alhaji Mohammed Danjuma, has condemned the communal clashes between the indigenous Lunguda speaking people of Guyuk and Waja settlers of Lafia in Lamurde local government area of Adamawa state.

 Danjuma condemned  the clashes in his palace at Tallase headquarters of Balanga LGA of Gombe state Saturday when he received Lunguda/Waja Forum from Abuja.

Leaders of the forum brought relief materials to affected victims and InternallyDisplaced Persons (IDPs) from Adamawa.

 The two communities were engaged in clashes in July and it led to  loss of lives, destruction of houses and many were rendered homeless and displaced.

 The ruler said the crises started in Adamawa and ended up in Gombe state. He described the incident as unfortunate.

 He said Lunguda and Waja people were neighbours in the same chiefdom in Gombe state and they were enjoying harmonious relationships.

 He said  his chiefdom will not allow any group to incite hatred and violence against the other.

Speaking earlier, leader of the group, Professor Iliya Dongs said in Abuja that  Waja and Lunguda were united and they see no reason why those in Gombe and Adamawa will engage themselves in the clash.

 He further appealed to traditional leaders to collaborate with relevant authorities and fish out the perpetrators of the violence.

 The team leader presented the relief materials for onward distribution to the victims and the displaced persons from Adamawa state.

 The items were 10 bags of rice, Four bags of beans, 20 bags of semovita, two bags of sugar, 8 roles of bathing soap,10 cartons of detergent,10 cartoons of seasoning,10 cartoons of petroleum jelly, 10 jerry cans of vegetable oil and 10 bags of salt.

 Also speaking, two past deputy governors of Gombe state who were also members of the group, Mr Tha’anda Rubainu and John Yoriyo, described the incidence as unfortunate.
