Gombe delegate accuses dep gov of frustrating proposed Yemen State

A delegate representing ethnic nationalities from Gombe state in the National Conference, Dr. Daniel Maddo, has accused the Deputy Governor of Gombe state, Mr. Tha’anda Rubainu, of subverting the creation of a Yemen state out of the present Gombe state.
Maddo told journalists at a press conference he addressed that he was reliably informed about a letter addressed to the chairman of the National Conference disclaiming the popular decision of the people Gombe South.

“We are reliably informed that a letter addressed to the Chairman of the National Conference, Hon. Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi, has been written from Gombe and addressed in care of the office of the Mai-Kaltungo,” he said.
“In the letter, it is claimed that the Tangale-Waja Community Leaders Forum did not consult our stakeholders before coming up with its memorandum  to the National Conference.”

The Gombe state-born scientist said: “Our traditional rulers, who are remunerated by the government have now been coerced to sign the letter.”
He also said: “We have been also reliably informed that the chairmen of local governments, commissioners and members of the state House of Assembly from Gombe South are being pressurised by the deputy governor of Gombe state who has already appended his signature.”
According to him, the House members are resisting the pressure as it would lead to a political suicide.

Maddo said that their attempt to invite the deputy governor and other political office holders to a meeting in Billiri to prove that the position taken by the authors of the letter was false was prevented by the police on the orders of the state government under the pretext of insecurity.
He maintained that the Board of Trustees and the Board of Elders of the Tangale ethnic nationality of Billiri local government met and fully endorsed their position in the memorandum submitted to the conference.

He added that the “Position of the People of Gombe State” submitted by the deputy governor was nothing but an attempt to continue the discrimination against the ethnic nationalities of the Gombe South senatorial district which was highlighted in their memorandum.
