Firm counsels school girls on career choices

Auxano Foundation for Empowerment and Development, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) has counseled Government Girl’s Secondary School Dutse, Abuja, on career choices to enable them exploit their full potential.

A co-founder of the organisation and former student of the school Dr Grace Babajide said on Tuesday that the programme was part of events to mark the 2020 Women’s Day.

Babajide said the programme entitled: “Unleashing Your Unlimited Potential”, would empower the SS1 girls to make informed decisions while choosing a career which would determine their future profession.

“We are here today for the career day, we try to come back as often as we can every year to inspire the young ones and let them know what we have been able to do after we left the school.

“We come to impact them with the knowledge we got and to teach them what they can do.

“We introduce them to various professions and they ask questions regarding their interest in whatever profession introduced to them and what it entails to practice each profession.

“We try to combine it with the international Women’s Day every year, making it a duty to inspire the girls because part of becoming a woman is contributing to your family and nation through your career.’’

Babajide said that the Auxano foundation was founded eight years ago by herself and some former students of the school to use their resources and knowledge to contribute their quota to the school and the nation.

She said that “the group does that through empowerment programmes, orientations and outreaches to Internally Displaced camps, communities, schools among others”.

Babajide called on the Federal Government to support the girl-child with more extra-curricular activities and trainings in entrepreneur activities so they could create jobs and employ other people when they could not get jobs with the generic education.

Also, a co-founder Dignity Foundation, Mark Makinde, said his organisation supported the Auxano Foundation for Empowerment and Development because of its belief in adding value to humanity and empowering girl-child.
