Fintiri’s govt has no cause to worry over EFCC – Commissioner

Adamawa State Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs Mohammed Umar has said that under the present administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri there is nothing to worry about over management of local governments funds.

Umar said they always complied with  due process of law with relevant documents and certificates of no objections intact in the few contracts they have awarded so far.

He also denied the speculations making the rounds by the opposition that he and his permanent secretary as well as ALGON chairman in the state were recently arrested and summoned.

He described it as false and stressed that nobody arrested or molested them, explaining that the recent visit by the Economic and financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives is just to obtain information and documents which were handed over to them.

“Yes some operatives of EFCC were in the office on 26th of April looking for certain information and documents. First they came looking for all contracts awarded from 2018-2019, later they came again and said they want all the documents for contracts award from 2020 to date. These are the documents they came to look for.  Fortunately for us we have all the documents that we kept in a separate place.

“All what we did was to get them together, photocopied them ,certified them and gave it to them. That’s exactly what happened but the insinuation in town propagated by the opposition is that myself, my perm sec and ALGON chairman, we were arrested by EFCC. This is false, none of us was arrested or molested, all they needed is documents and we gave it to them.”

According to him, there was no much contracts awarded by the Fintiri’s administration due to lack of funds as a result of COVID-19  but the few contracts the administration have awarded followed due process with all relevant documents including certificate of no objection from the bureau for public procurement, all handed over to them
