FG vows to implement PAU project

Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esn, ahas assured that the federl government was is committed to the implementation of the Pan African University project (PAU).
A statement issued by the ministry yesterday in Abuja, said Yemi-Esan expressed the commitment at a sensitisation workshop on African Union Education and other Continental Strategy and Initiatives.
Represented at the occasion by Mrs. Justina Ibe, the Director of Education Support Services, she said the workshop was attended by representatives of state governments, Universal Basic Commission, Nigerian Union of Teachers, Federal Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Youth and Sports and Science and Technology.

It quoted the permanent secretary as saying that Nigeria had been in the forefront of implementation of AU and ECOWAS projects and programmes.
“Nigeria is playing a vital role in the implementation of the Pan African University project for which Nigeria hosts the Pan African University Institute of Life and Earth Science at the University of Ibadan (PAULEST).
“Nigeria is also a part of the road-map for the Pan African Conference on Teacher Education and Development (PACTED), which is assigned to Nigeria along with Kenya, Senegal and Togo to implement as pilot countries.
“The Federal Ministry of Education and its organs will continue to strengthen efforts aimed at implementing the continental decisions, projects and programmes relating to the sector at all levels.

“The world had moved from the eight goals agreed upon at the turn of the millennium in the year 2000 to 17 levels post 2015 goals tagged Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),’’ the statement quoted Yemi-Esan as saying.
It said Yemi-Esan told the participants that the fourth goal of SDGs was to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
It said Yemi-Esan urged the participants to examine the continental initiatives; align them to the needs of the country; develop and implement activities relevant to the respective mandates of their organisations.
