Few months after retirement, robbers burgle ex-S’ Court Justice Dattijo’s quarters

Retired Justice Muhammad Dattijo’s official quarters at the Supreme Court has been burgled by yet-to-be identified burglars.

Finding by this medium revealed that the incident took place at the quarters for Supreme Court Judges in Maitama during Christmas holidays.

Dattijo, a retired Judge, who vacated the Supreme Court bench last year stirred controversy while retiring when he called out his constituency over what he termed ‘public perceptions of the judiciary’, calling for urgent reform to correct the alleged anomalies.

The former Judge, who also decried political and sectional interests in the appointment of Judges in the country, insisted in his speech that the judiciary must be uniquely above board.

He said, “In some quarters, the view is strongly held that filth and intrigues characterize the institution these days. Judges are said to be comfortable in companies they never would have kept in the past. It is being insinuated that some judicial officers even campaign for politicians. It cannot be more damning.”

“Lobbying was unheard of. I never lobbied, not at any stage of my career, to secure any appointment or elevation. As much as possible, the most qualified men and women were appointed. That can no longer be said about appointments to the bench,” he explained further.
