FCT: Disabilities commission constructs 40-unit toilet for leprosy colony

The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), weekend commenced the construction of a 40-unit toilet for Alheri Leprosy Colony in Yangoji, Kwali area council of Abuja.

Speaking Friday in Abuja during the flag-off of the construction and renovation project, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), James David Lalu, said the project will be completed and ready for use within two months, in line with fulfilling the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He said: “We remain committed to the improvement of the lives of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in Nigeria. Today, we are at Yangoji as part of our strong partnership with the FCTA, through the Mandate Secretary of the Social Development Secretariat. We are going to construct 40 accessible toilets for the colony. We will partner with the FCT to make sure that in the nearest future, the minister starts commissioning projects to improve the quality of life of PWDs.

“In the next two months, we will be here to commission this project. We are very grateful to the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, for her motivation in catering for PWDs. Disability issue is gaining ground in Nigeria. Mr. President recently signed the African Protocol on PWDs. We are preparing to take the document to Addis Ababa to show to the world that Mr. President has PWDs at heart.”
