Ex-Kaduna chapter chairman Chedi elected to NIPR Council

A former chairman of the Kaduna chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Alhaji Bashir Adamu Chedi, has been elected with 16 others to serve in the NIPR Governing Council for the next two years.

He was elected at the 2023 Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Institute which was held at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja.

Chedi emerged fourth in the ranking of votes cast in the election, polling 815 votes in all, with 13 voided ballots, in the election described by many as the “most keenly contested in the history of the Institute.”

The former chairman ranked next to Dr. Ike Neliaku, Ini Ememobong and Sule Ya’u Sule, who recorded 830, 867 and 868 votes, respectively, with Dr. Ike Neliaku emerging as President and Chairman of Council in the collegiate voting which followed the general ballots, among the top scorers.

Although Chedi was described as a “dark horse” in the race, his eventual emergence was a robust campaign ahead of the elections and sustained horse-trading and strategic alliances by his campaign team and delegation from the Chapter in the build-up to the actual voting.

Congratulating the new Council member, a former vice-president of the Institute, Dr. Mohammed Auwal Haruna, noted that his victory would signify the re-engagement of the Kaduna chapter in the affairs of the Institute.

He added that NIPR would benefit from Chedi’s vast experience and professionalism.
