Enugu: Man strangles 44-year-old friend to death

The Enugu state Police command has arrested a young man, Agbo Onuabuchi, 24, a native of Ebonyi state, who resides in Ogidi, Idemili North LGA of Anambra state for strangling his friend to death.

The suspect, who has been remanded in Enugu Custodial Centre, strangled one Peter Ukekwe, 44, to death and buried him.

According to the police spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, after strangling the deceased to death, Onuabuchi went ahead to bury Peter in a shallow grave at Amuri community in Nkanu West local government area, on April 1, 2023.

Ndukwe disclosed that the suspect and the deceased had on the said date, traveled from Ogidi, Anambra state, to Amuri to visit one Onyeka Edeh, a male native doctor.

The suspect and the deceased were said to have left the native doctor’s house for an unknown destination, but when a search was conducted, they were not found until the following morning, when the suspect was arrested at Obe community in the same LGA by police operatives serving in Nkanu West Division of Enugu state Command, with the assistance of citizens, while he was attempting to escape back to Ogidi, Anambra state. 

Ndukwe pointed out that the suspect confessed to the crime, stating that he strangled the victim to death and buried him in a shallow grave in the bush, where his remains were exhumed and deposited in the mortuary for autopsy. 

“The case was, thereafter, transferred to the homicide section of the State CID Enugu, where investigation into the case was consolidated, concluded and the suspect arraigned and remanded accordingly for further hearing,” the police stated.
