Elections: INEC Okays 2,826 polling, voting units in Yobe

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Yobe state has said 2,826 polling and voting units have been certified for the 2019 generation elections scheduled for February, 16 and March 2, 2019.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Ahmad Makama disclosed this on Wednesday when he hosted stakeholders’ forum to discuss issues relating to the elections.

“One of the cardinal objectives of INEC is to conduct credible, free, fair and transparent election.  Consequent upon this, the commission established stakeholders’ forum for various organisations contribute their quota”.

“Another issue is hate speech which generates tension within the society and counter peaceful atmosphere of the polity”, he said.

Makama drew the attention of the stakeholders on the vices that truncate the democratic processes like vote buying and selling.

He further stated:  “the 2019 general elections, the accreditation and voting will be merged to take place simultaneously. The use of Smart Card Reader (SCR) which was introduced in the 2015 general elections and other subsequent by-elections will be used.”

The meeting witnessed participation of stakeholders from the
security agencies, media, politicians, religious leaders, among others.
