Ekiti/Osun polls: Nigerians want acceptable elections – CNPP

South-west chairman of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), Alhaji  Yinka Olona, yesterday advised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct acceptable governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states, this year.

Olona, who gave the advice during a chat with journalists, declared that “all what Nigerians want now from INEC is a credible, free, fair and acceptable elections, starting from the 2014 governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states, respectively.”

He stressed that for the August 9, governorship election in Osun state to be free and fair, the time had come for the INEC authorities to, without wasting time, redeploy the Osun INEC REC to another state following the insistence of some political parties in the state.
He said: “In Osun state now there is a kind of clarion call by some of the political parties that Jega should remove the Resident Electoral

Commissioner (REC) there because he is a card carrying member of one of the political parties. So, all these issues need to be resolved.”
He maintained that there was the urgent need for the Osun REC to step aside for a neutral person to conduct the election.
Speaking on the Best Performing South West Governor 2012/13 bestowed on Governor Abiola Ajimobi by the CNPP, Olona said the award was based on the impressive performance of the governor.
