Eid el-Fitr: 10 died in Ogun road crashes – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun state Command, has disclosed that 10 people died in 10 road crashes during the Eid el-Fitr Special Patrol in the state.

The state’s sector commander, Anthony Uga, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Ota that 41 other people sustained varying degrees of injury from the crashes.

Uga said the 10 people that died comprised eight males and two females, while the 41 injured were 22 males, 15 females and four male children.

The sector commander said they were able to stem cases of accidents to the minimum level through the special patrol operation which began on April 8.

“Most of the road crashes recorded during the Eld-el-Fitri Celebration were caused by excessive speed and tyre burst.

“We are appealing to motorists to reduce their speed as most of the accidents could have been avoidable if the drivers used good tyres and adhere strictly to average speed limit,” he said.

Uga implored both commercial and private vehicles to install speed limit devices and refrain from using expired tyres to minimize road crashes to the barest level in the state. (NAN)
