ECCIMA urges Shippers Council to extend shipping, maritime knowledge to varsities

Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, ECCIMA, has called on the Nigerian Shippers Council, NSC, to make available knowledge concerning shipping and maritime activities to Nigerians through the universities

This is to enable Nigerians to have a better knowledge of shipping as it concerns international trade in Nigeria.

The president of ECCIMA, Sir Odeiga Jideonwo, represented by 1st Vice President, Nnanyelugo Onyemelukwe, made the call on Friday at the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) special day at the ongoing 35th Enugu International Trade Fair.

Jideonwo, who commended the Council for their efforts at protecting the interest of shippers in Nigeria, especially in matters affecting the shipment of import and export to and fro Nigeria, encouraged the Council to do more in educating Nigerians, especially the business world.

“We commend the efforts of the Council in providing a forum that protects the interest of shippers especially on matters affecting the shipment of import and export to and from Nigerians.

“Notwithstanding, we strongly feel that more effort should be made to bridging the knowledge gap and enhancing the availability of knowledge in shipping/maritime discipline in all the universities across the country.  This will no doubt help the Council build stronger knowledge base for younger generation of shippers, importers and exporters,” he said.
