Ebonyi closes schools, embarks on massive screening

Ebonyi state government, Friday, directed the closure of schools, night clubs and other night activities in a bid to check mate the increasing cases of coronavirus in the country.

The state government in a press statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Kenneth Ugbala, said all private and public schools in the state should round off all activities and close by 12noon.

The statement read in part, “I am directed by the Governor of Ebonyi state, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi, to request all private and public schools: nursery, primary, and secondary schools as well as tertiary institutions to round up and close their school activities by 12noon on March 20, 2020.

“Government by this announcement directs all security agencies to ensure that all private and public schools are immediately closed in line with this directive.

“The Ministry of health and State Committee on Anti coronary virus are hereby directed that they should deploy all health officers to all markets, rice mills, quarry, banks and other public event management centres to carry out test on people randomly.

“All the night clubs and other night activities are by this announcement closed. Every gathering of more than 50 persons in our religious worship centres is hereby prohibited. All markets and religious centres must deploy a strategy of hand sanitizers and deploy other temperature checks at their entry and exit places.

“The state government shall meet with religious leaders in few days to discuss on the gathering of their worship centres. The state shall also on Monday, March 23, commence stop and test of all people entering Ebonyi state as a way of safe-guarding our people.”
